when you should book your newborn photographer

If you’re expecting a baby, first of all—congratulations. This season is such a blur in the best (and most exhausting) way, and one of the biggest questions I get from moms is:

“When should I actually book my newborn photographer?”

If you're in Atlanta, Columbus, Auburn, or the surrounding areas, the short answer is:

Earlier than you think.

Let’s break it down so you can feel confident and stress-free going into this process.

The Best Time to Book a Newborn Photographer

The ideal time to book your newborn session is during your second trimester—around 20–28 weeks.

Why?

Because most newborn photographers, especially myself only take a certain number of due dates each month. Once those spots are filled, they’re gone.

Booking early means:

You’re guaranteed a spot around your due date

You don’t have to scramble after baby arrives

You can actually enjoy those first few weeks instead of planning photos and getting everything together once baby has already arrived. Planning early, makes the process so much smoother and enjoyable.

But What If Baby Doesn’t Arrive on Time?

This is one of the biggest concerns I hear—and don’t worry, I’ve got you.

When you book, I reserve your due date, not a specific session date. Once your baby arrives, you simply reach out and we schedule your session within that sweet spot. This is why I only take on a limited number of sessions per month. So I have the flexibility to be available to you whenever baby decides to make their arrival.

When Do Newborn Sessions Actually Happen?

Most newborn sessions take place within the first 7–21 days after birth.

This is when babies are extra sleepy and curled up, feeding is more predictable and we can create those calm, warm natural shots that you love.

That said—if your baby is older, it is NEVER too late. Your story is still worth documenting. Contact me today and I will fit you in wherever possible.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU BOOK?

Once you're officially booked, everything becomes easy.

You’ll receive: A simple prep guide so you know exactly what to expect

Styling guidance for your family

A relaxed, baby-led approach (no pressure, ever)

My goal is to make this feel like a calm, meaningful experience—not something stressful to “get through.”

Why Booking Early Matters More Than You Think

Here’s the honest truth.

The moms who wait often end up;

Settling for whoever is available

Missing the newborn stage entirely

Or feeling rushed and overwhelmed trying to plan last-minute.

You deserve better than that.

This season is once-in-a-lifetime—and having it documented in a natural, heartfelt way is something you’ll never regret.
